From birth Szilvia Vári suffers from arthrogryposis and, because of the progression of the disease, is no longer able to use her limbs. In 1978, while she was still a child, she tried to paint with her mouth. Mouth painting, initially a pastime, soon became one of the artist's greatest hobbies, and as she was a self-taught artist, she perfected her painting technique and thus also her paintings. In 1981 she won a silver medal in a children's painting contest in Japan. The artist paints a great variety of themes, from floral themes to landscapes.
