Ana Rosa Torres Ortega was born on 13 August 1969 in Los Mochis, Sinaloa in Mexico. She completed secondary school and then trained to become a secretary. At the age of 18 Ana Rosa married. She has three children. When she was 22 she started having pain in her joints and went to see the doctor. After further examinations she was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. Gradually her knees, arms and fingers became affected and today she needs a wheelchair. At the rehabilitation centre she met mouth painting teacher Lidia Chaidez. Since October 2007 she has been attending painting classes, and learning how to mouth paint has distracted her from her arthritis problems. When she paints she forgets her pain. It also helps to be productive and motivates her to continue painting and to make something of her life.
