Emilia RATAJCZAK was born on 25 February 1952 in the Janowszczyzna region. In 1959 she went to Poland with her family. She has always had a passion for painting. In 1970 she finished secondary school and started studying at the faculty of Russian philology. Her plans for her future also included studying art. One day she started to feel slight pain in her leg. In 1981 she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) at the hospital. Due to her deteriorating health she was forced to give up her studies. For more than ten years she has been needing the help of others. Painting helps her to escape from everyday life and distracts her from the fact that she is suffering from an incurable disease. By a twist of fate she met Mr Jerzy Omelczuk, associate member of VDMFK, and he told her about the Association. She would be very happy to become a member, and to her it would mean that she could do useful work and feel like a valuable human being again.
