Bandenawas Badhsa Nadaf was born in Mumbai on 5 February 1987. He was born without a left hand and with a defect in his upper extremities: his right arm merely consisted of a short stump. But despite these difficulties his family helped him to learn to write with his foot. He attended the Hindi secondary school until the seventh grade and was a very good student. At the age of 13 he began to take an interest in art and set out the first foundations for foot painting. At the start he taught himself how to do this. Later on he took private art lessons from Balachandra Dhanu, a well-known local teacher. Bandennawas Badhsa quickly made considerable progress with foot painting and won prizes at several internal school and national art competitions in India. In addition, he is a great sportsman. He took part in the mini Olympics for disabled people at which he came first in several disciplines.
