Johan Erik Moreno Chavez was born in Coyotepec on 24 June 1983. He completed his high school education and then worked for a series of companies. At the age of 27 he was in full-time employment and was married, with a daughter. On 1 January 2011 he broke his 4th, 5th and 6th vertebrae in a diving accident at a swimming pool. He was diagnosed as tetraplegic. Nearly a year later he was watching videos on the internet when he saw one about a young mouth painter describing his life. When John Erik got home he started to draw with his mouth. He was thrilled to see just what he could produce. Drawing helps him to relax and occupies his mind. He started to buy oil paints and brushes, and to mix his colour on a piece of carton. He instructed himself solely through internet videos. Raquel from the Mexian publishing house put him in contact with our scholarship holder Juan GONZÁLEZ Cervantes. Johan Erik started to take painting lessons with him. They have worked together a lot and Juan GONZÁLEZ Cervantes has taught him the techniques of oil painting.
