Michael led a life dedicated to others: he was a masseur, a therapist in kinaesthetic therapy and an instructor in psychological preparation for athletes. He then suffered from spontaneous medullary ischaemia, and became a quadriplegic at the age of 32. An occupational therapist and another patient in the rehabilitation centre challenged him to try painting something with his mouth. Since then, mouth painting has become a means of expression, a form of rehabilitation and a route enabling him to break out from his condition. As someone fascinated by mountains and the sea, his pictures vary depending on the seasons, years, and above all his own challenges. He came across the Association in the course of a meeting with Full Member Henry Clairy Hembert at the exhibition atelier in Berck-sur-Mer.
