Lapper Alison
- Great Britain
Alison Lapper was born without arms. That is why she spent the first 17 years of her life in a hospital in Switzerland. She took up foot painting at an early age. She had to give up foot painting and switch over to mouth painting after an operation. She left the Swiss hospital and moved to a diagnosis centre in Great Britain where she stayed for two years. From this time on, she concentrated very hard on her artistic education. In 1994, her name was entered in the honorary list of best students of fine arts at the university of Brighton. Since 1982 the VDMFK has supported Alison Lapper by granting her a scholarship. She became associate member of the Association in 1993 and full member in 1995.
The artist's favourite motifs are nudes, collages and compositions, which she mostly paints in water-colours. Her artistic sureness when drawing is astounding. Today, Alison Lapper teaches mouth painting at one-day seminars. Her works have repeatedly been shown at exhibitions and have won her various prizes. Alison Lapper has been a guest in several television and radio programmes.
