Lars Höllerer attended primary and secondary school and then a two-year business school. In Mai 1991, three months after he had completed his military service, he had a grave motorcycle accident. He has been paraplegic ever since. At the rehabilitation centre he taught himself to paint with his mouth. Subsequently he enrolled at an art academy where he found inspiration for his artistic work. In 1999 Lars Höllerer became a VDMFK scholarship holder. In 2005 he was made an associate member of the Association.

Lars Höllerer mostly creates expressionist paintings and modern or abstract paintings, working in oils on canvas. These works are partly painted over ink. His landscapes and still lives are frequently created based on the technique of naive painting. He makes use of different media for his true passion, studies of the nude. Lars Höllerer has shown his works at various solo and shared exhibitions in Germany and abroad.
