Danielle DIAS DE SOUZA was born on 14 September 1983 in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. At the age of nine she lost her father. Her mother raised her and her brother alone. They lived in an area located high up, dangerous and difficult to reach by car. One fateful Christmas evening she went to a dance. She was having a good time there when suddenly, at midnight, shots were fired and she was hit by one of them. She woke up three months later completely intubated and was unable to remember what had happened. She was told that, as a result of the accident, she would remain completely paralysed from head to toe. It was a very difficult time for her. Then she started seeing life with different eyes. She has made new friends and has rediscovered herself. One day she found out that she could paint with her mouth. For her, it is a great opportunity to be able to paint with her mouth and thus to realise her dreams and improve the quality of her life.
