Jon Clayton was born on 26 July 1969. He became a quadriplegic following a grave motorcycle accident in 1978. Jon Clayton was to take up painting as a form of occupational therapy during a stay at the rehabilitation centre of Pinderfields Spinal Unit in Wakefield but gave up quickly when his initial attempts failed. Only after his return home and continual encouragement by his sister did he try again to paint and draw holding the brush in his mouth. Mr Clayton is self-taught and has now been painting for 16 years. The favourite techniques of the mouth painter are watercolours, oils and pencil drawings.
