The 21st painting workshop of the German mouth and foot painters took place from 21 August to 24 August 2024.
The participating artists were the Full Members Thomas Kahlau, Lars Höllerer, Antje Kratz, the Associate Members Markus Kolp, Markus Kostka and the Scholarship Holders Selma Aman, Waldemar Merz and Werner Mittelbach.
Under the direction of workshop leader Monika Sieveking, the artists all painted the same motif: the back view of a little girl in a summer dress.
All participants were asked to stay as close as possible to the motif, but to interpret it in their own style. The idea behind this was to engage in a professional dialogue about the task, exchange ideas about the challenges and how they can be solved.
Fundamental topics are always covered during the course. This year, the focus was on ‘background and lighting direction’. The background of a motif plays an important role in painting, as it has a significant influence on the perception and effect of the main motif. It is not merely decorative, but an active element,’ as Monika Sieveking explained
Visibly challenged but satisfied, the mouth and foot painters set off on their journey home on 25 August 2024.
