Lars Höllerer is now the proud recipient of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. Überlingen’s mayor Jan Zeitler presented him with the medal in a ceremony in April at his place of birth and residence on Lake Constance. His father Rudolf Höllerer accepted the certificate on his behalf, signed by the Federal President at the suggestion of Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann. Lars Höllerer was honored for his comprehensive artistic work, which he brought to the canvas with his mouth and brush, as well as his tireless commitment to inclusion. Open in dealing with his history and actively seeking contact with his fellow human beings, he has repeatedly shown his skills in numerous exhibitions and painting demonstrations in recent years, thus counteracting fears of contact – be it in galleries, hospitals, kindergartens, retirement homes or schools.
“I would never have expected this price,” said Lars Höllerer, visibly moved. It took him a long time to be able to live with the consequences of his paraplegia and he is happy to have overcome this difficult phase. In his 20-minute acceptance speech, he also read two chapters from his book “Roll. On – That’s it for Womanizer”. In it he humorously pokes fun at his fate, triggered by a motorcycle accident at the age of 22.
