Denis John MWESIGYE

Denis John Mwesigye was born on 12 November 2000 in Kampala, Uganda, with deformed arms.
Denis John’s father left the family, as he saw his son as an unlucky person. His mother was soon overburdened with the daily domestic needs. Denis John was handed over to the Arms Around Africa Foundation, but the carers were of the opinion that his brain did not work normally as a result of the physical deformities. A psychologist tested his brain function, which was very normal and active. From that point on, he began to take chess lessons. He participated in chess championships in Uganda, Africa and New York. During his stay at the Arms Around Africa Foundation, he attended school, where he discovered his artistic and musical talent. Through his skills in painting and singing, Denis John was able to earn a little money to survive and, at the same time, to support his unemployed mother and his two brothers.
