From April 12 to 17, 2026, the 13th General Assembly of the Association of Mouth and Foot Painting Artists (VDMFK) took place in London. The occasion marked not only the assembly itself but also a very special milestone: the 70th anniversary of the Association.
Artists from around the world gathered to take part in this remarkable week. Today, the Association brings together more than 700 mouth and foot painting artists from numerous countries, supporting both their artistic development and their economic independence.
Exchange, Decisions, and Community
In addition to organizational matters, the General Assembly focused on key decisions, including the election of a new president and the reappointment of board members. During the assembly, Tom Yendell was elected as the fifth president of the VDMFK. Long-standing board member and Vice President Thomas Kahlau stepped down from his position. At the same time, Keith Jansz was newly elected to the board.

The event provided a valuable platform for personal exchange, reconnecting with long-time colleagues, and building new relationships within the international artist community.
Cultural Highlights of the Anniversary Week
A particular highlight was the festive gala held at the historic Guildhall, which offered a fitting setting for the 70th anniversary celebrations.

Equally impressive was the exhibition opening on April 14, 2026, at Lindley Hall. Works by artists from over 33 countries were presented, vividly demonstrating how art transcends borders, empowers individuals, and connects communities worldwide.

A special moment was the visit of Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, who attended the exhibition “Defying Limits, Defining Art: 70 Years of the Mouth and Foot Painting Artists” and showed her appreciation for the participating artists.

The Association was founded in 1956 by the German artist Erich Stegmann. Today, it represents around 720 artists in 71 countries. Its mission is to support people with severe physical disabilities who earn their living by painting with their mouth or foot.
A Week Full of Inspiration
The days in London were marked by meaningful conversations, creative inspiration, and a strong sense of community. Once again, the event demonstrated how art can unite people—regardless of their background or physical limitations.
The 13th General Assembly will remain a lasting memory for all participants, not only because of its anniversary significance but above all due to its unique atmosphere and shared experiences.
