Roberta Raicia Soares Cardoso was born on 16 June 1991 in Medina. She was a
very charismatic and happy girl, attended school and would never have thought that anything could be impossible for her. She went to São Paulo to work, in order to support her family, who was experiencing poverty.
At the age of 16, she had a serious car accident, which resulted in quadriplegia. After 18 months in the hospital, she was allowed to return home.
At home, her mother cares for her. She has not lost her vitality or her enjoyment of nature.
After Roberta Raicia lost a brother, she began to paint with her mouth. Unable to walk, unable to work, unable to do anything, she thought, “I have to find something to distract myself with, to alleviate my grief at the loss of my brother”. Her mother bought her a pencil and paper.
For Roberta Raicia Soares Cardoso, the discovery of art was very important because it helps her to feel more alive and to see that she is not useless.
