Painting Method: foot painting artist
Stanka Glavan was born on 31 March 1949 at Prapreče near Žužemberk. Soon after her birth her parents realised she was disabled due to injuries caused during birth. Since she had to use a wheelchair, she did not go to school, but was home schooled by her mother and father. At the same time, she met art through children’s books. She began to draw herself. Unable to grip pencils with her hands, she used her feet. In 1972, the “Jana” magazine carried an article on her, which resulted in her being admitted to the International Association of Mouth and Foot Painting Artists in 1976. She was granted a scholarship to enrol in a mentorship programme. In 1977 she completed her primary school education. Stanka Glavan mainly painted watercolours with her feet. She died on 28 April 1992, in Novo mesto, aged 43. She was the first female painter to become a member of the International Association of Mouth and Foot Painting Artists.
