Birthplace: Waiãpis Amazon Indian reservation
Painting Method: Mouth painter
Born on 13 October 1977 on the Waiãpis Amazon Indian reservation, Pituco developed polio at the age of 2 months. He had to be taken to Belém for treatment because, according to indigenous tradition he was supposed to be dead because he was born with this problem. Struggling with other health problems as well, including malaria, he ended up getting weaker and eventually became quadriplegic. Pituco learned mouth painting, and since 2006 the Association has been honoring his life story through a comic strip about his tribe and the Amazon region.
