At the age of 11 years old he emigrated with his family to Australia, where he studied high school and later he obtained the title of ladies hairdresser. In 1984 he returned to Spain where he practices his profession until 1986 in which he is injured after jumping headfirst into the sea, in consequence of which he is a quadriplegic. He was admitted for 1 year at the Paraplegics Hospital in Toledo, where he learned how to write with his mouth. Since 1990 he resides in the Center of Attention to Physical Disabled People in Alcuéscar. A great lover of art, especially painting, he begins to paint with his mouth as occupational therapy in 1994 led by a great friend. Since then he continues painting every day in the workshops. Besides painting Manuel sings in a pop-rock group and is one of the best specialists in boccia (Paralympic Sport) in Spain.
