Short Biography

In November 1990 Sione Tony Hema had a grave accident that resulted in complete paralysis of his arms and legs. As he needed care around the clock he lived in a nursing home. He began to paint with the mouth in October 1991. Initially, he tried to teach himself sketching by holding a brush in his mouth. On account of his enormous dedication a nurse organised an art teacher who gave him lessons on a regular basis. The press repeatedly reported on the talented mouth painter who received a scholarship from VDMFK since 1996.
