Short Biography

Paul E. Driver left school in 1942 and started training in the construction sector. He worked in this field with interruptions for several years. In 1955, he contracted polio which resulted in paralysis of his arms, thorax and the respiratory system as well as in partial paralysis of his legs. At a meeting with other polio patients he met an artist who carved a holder for him which he held with his toes fastening a pen or a brush. He started to write, paint and draw with the means of this device. He also worked in a print and copy shop to earn some money. There he fulfilled his typesetting tasks using his feet. He wrote and published several articles. At the same time he also continued his painting activities. In 1966, he was granted a scholarship by the association. Since 1971, he has been a full member of AMFPA.

His love of the sea, sky and boats is reflected in most of his works. His paintings are inspired by his stays in Switzerland and by the Swiss lakes and mountains. Paul E. Driver uses oil for his paintings. In the course of his artistic career he has carried out several single exhibitions and has taken part in group exhibitions.

Paul E. Driver died on January 21, 2004.
