Athol Thompson, mouth painting artist.
Mr. Athol Thompson was born in Launceston, Tasmania, on September 3, 1910. At the age of eight he touched an electric cable with the result that both arms had to be amputated. When fourteen he commended his studies of commercial art at the Royal Technical College of Melbourne, where Mr. John Rowell was his teacher. Thompson was successful in a college competition. One of his sketches, a huge poster, was accepted by Melbourne Town Council and was published in 1934 in all the better-known magazines of the world. Thompson participated successfully in many exhibitions. Athol Thompson died on April 13, 1980.
